Maintenance: RefWorks unavailable April 11th

Due to maintenance RefWorks will be unavailable for up to two hours starting 4:00 AM, April 11th Central European Time.

Simple lists of books with tips for studying, teaching and research

Starting this week the library offers simple lists of books with tips for studying, teaching and research through our RefWorks Shared Area.

Viewing the UU RefWorks Shared Area and importing titles from lists available there into your own RefWorks account is possible for anyone. Just go the the UU RefWorks Shared Area or from within RefWorks click View > RefWorks Shared Area. If you want to you can even subscribe to a feed of new additions to these lists, through RSS.

We are interested to get feedback on this initiative. If you would like to cooperate by adding relevant titles, please let us know by commenting on this message or, preferably, by sending a message to bibliotheek@uu.nl

The Shared Area is a RefWorks webpage for all UU. It is available for publishing reading lists simply by ticking the option when sharing a RefWorks folder. However to keep the page manageable this option is only available if you have been granted permission. Anyone willing to use this space for their own lists can send a request to the UU RefWorks administrator via bibliotheek@uu.nl stating the RefWorks username and topic of the list.

RefWorks unavailable this Saturday 1 AM - 7 AM

Due to urgent maintenance work on RefWorks UU databases, RefWorks will be unavailable on Saturday 13th of March from 1:00 AM to 7:00 AM (Central European/Amsterdam time).

Off campus export problem from Sociological Abstracts solved

The problem of not being recognised off campus by RefWorks when exporting from Sociological Abstracts and other CSA databases (LISA, ERIC, MLA) has been solved. After logging in to these databases using the links on the library website you are automatically recognised by RefWorks as UU-authorised user and only need to log in with your RefWorks username and password. No need for using a groupcode.

Scopus direct export problem solved

Direct export from Scopus to RefWorks is working again. There is no need anymore to save/import RIS files with Scopus references.

Scopus direct export out of order

Since the recent server changes at RefWorks the direct export from Scopus is not working. Both RefWorks and Scopus are aware of the problem and working to get it solved. In the meantime to import references from Scopus please use the output option to save these in a RIS file. In RefWorks choose import form the references menu and use RIS format as import filter and Scopus as database. We will inform you as soon as the direct export will be working again.

UU does not renew Endnote license

NB On July 1, 2010 the UU license for Endnote will end. From then, Endnote will not be available anymore on computers managed by UU. Also, Endnote software bought through Surfspot cannot be used anymore form that date.
Please be advised to switch to RefWorks now. Endnote library files can easily be imported into RefWorks. However, citations and bibliographies in (Word-) documents formatted with Endnote will not be recognised by RefWorks. You are advised to format your citations in new papers etc. with RefWorks.

Write-n-Cite & Windows 7

We got a message from RefWorks stating that WNC III has been tested for issues with Windows 7. No issues were found, so anyone can use Write-n-Cite III with Windows 7.

UBU catalogue: use English interface for correct export

Contrary to earlier messages from us, it is still necessary to use the English language interface of the Utrecht University Library catalogue to avoid export issues. Using the Dutch interface may result in data ending up in the wrong fields (e.g. publication year in the notes field). When in doubt, always check with the import suggestions list on the RefWorks support pages on the library website. These should always be up to date.

Omega direct export issue solved

The problem with the direct export of records from Omega into RefWorks has been solved. All should be working fine now.

Omega direct export

Direct export from Omega is currently out of order. The library is busy repairing it. We will post again as soon as the problem is solved.

In the meantime is is possible to export records from Omega by sending records to your email, using the Endnote format. You can then import these records by simply copying all the text in the email and use the 'references|import' option in RefWorks with 'Utrecht University' as import filter and 'Endnote Library' as database.
