Google Scholar problem resolved

Google has fixed the problem of the 'import into RefWorks" link not showing up. Importing should now work properly, though still one a time :-(

BTW Zotero does offer a way to import more references from GS in one go. Firefox only.

Problems with Google Scholar

As of today Google Scholar does not show the 'import into RefWorks' link anymore with its search results. You can still select it in the Google Scholar preferences under bibliographic software, but the link does not show up in the Google Scholar search results. We have taken action to get Google to repair this and will report further developments here. Other links (for Endote, Bibtex etc.) are still availabe.

In all RefWorks currently supports some 1500 Output Styles. If you need a style not currently supported, you can request RefWorks to add it. That will take some time of course. Otherwise let's hope that publishers will work on minimising the number of different styles used in their journals.

Importing from Picarta: Dutch and English versions identical

It is no longer necessary to swith to the English version when importing from the Picarta database. The Dutch version works the same now. Information on the support pages has been updated.

Tenfold increase of upload space

Again, upload space for all UU Refworks users has been increased, this time from 100 MB to 1 GB. Thus, you can easily store your PDF's and other documents together with your references in your RefWorks account. One gigybyte of storage space holds some 700 article PDF's of average length.

UU switches to RefWorks

In 2009 the UU will officially license RefWorks. It is expected that ICT-UU will install Write-n-Cite III on all university campus computers they manage. People using Endnote can continue using the version they have installed, but new versions will not be available under campus license anymore from May 2009. If you wish to continue using Endote you are advised to update to the latest version while the programme is still availabe under campus license.

Woldcat workaround for importing from UBU-catalogue

Importing titles from the university library catalogue into RefWorks is possible (see the instruction on our RefWorks support pages) but not always easy. If you are importing single titles it might save you time to locate the title in Worldcat and import it from that catalogue, because it has an easy direct export option. A minor drawback is that you miss out on the specific call number for locating the book on the library shelves in Utrecht.

Tip: switch to Write-n-Cite III

For all you out there still using Write-n-Cite (WNC) version II to let RefWorks talk with Word for citing and formatting papers it may be a good thing to switch to the next version, Write-n-Cite III. The main advantage is that it uses just one version of your doucment. So there's no more hassling with a seperate 'editing document' and a 'final formatted document'. And what is more: it is compatible with Vista en Word 2007.
