Off campus export problem from Sociological Abstracts solved

The problem of not being recognised off campus by RefWorks when exporting from Sociological Abstracts and other CSA databases (LISA, ERIC, MLA) has been solved. After logging in to these databases using the links on the library website you are automatically recognised by RefWorks as UU-authorised user and only need to log in with your RefWorks username and password. No need for using a groupcode.

Omega direct export issue solved

The problem with the direct export of records from Omega into RefWorks has been solved. All should be working fine now.

Omega direct export

Direct export from Omega is currently out of order. The library is busy repairing it. We will post again as soon as the problem is solved.

In the meantime is is possible to export records from Omega by sending records to your email, using the Endnote format. You can then import these records by simply copying all the text in the email and use the 'references|import' option in RefWorks with 'Utrecht University' as import filter and 'Endnote Library' as database.

Good news for users of EMbase: this medical literature database now has direct export to RefWorks.

Google Scholar problem resolved

Google has fixed the problem of the 'import into RefWorks" link not showing up. Importing should now work properly, though still one a time :-(

BTW Zotero does offer a way to import more references from GS in one go. Firefox only.

Jstor direct import issue

The revamp of the JSTOR database has a minor drawback: to use the direct export to RefWorks you now seem to need a personal registration. Although this is free within the campus license, it is quite cumbersome to have an extra login for a simple citation download.

If you are affected by this, please let Jstor know by using their contact form.

Although JSTOR is a great resource with unique content I hope this glitch is temporary.

Change habits and enjoy the greatly improved import off-campus

As of today the library offers a new way a accessing licensed journals and databases off-campus. We no longer use MyUU, but instead advise students and researchers to use the library website. When using the journal listing in Omega or the list of databases you will be routed via a new proxy server. Because Refworks also operates under this system there is now a far greater number of databases from which there is a simple 2-4 click direct import when working off-campus.

This improved way of working at home with Refworks was already available for Scopus and Omega, but now you get the same seamless experience using e.g. Ebsco, PsycInfo, GeoRef, Highwire, JSTOR, Science Direct and many others. The most important ones are listed is on the RefWork support page (in Dutch, in English) made by the library.
The same list shows that there are some exceptions where accessing RefWorks using the group code is better: Google Scholar and Worldcat. Please read the notes on the support page.

But the message is: when accessing your RefWorks database do not use http://www.refworks.com but
http://131.211.208.19/login?url=http://www.refworks.com/

You will be prompted to login with your Studentnumber or SolisID if you are off campus and then sent on to RefWorks where you can login to your RefWorks account.

Alternatively, click Refworks in the list of databases on the library website.
